Professor Gutow retired (became Emeritus) at the end of the Spring 2026 semester. Although he is no longer teaching, he is continuing to pursue some scholarly projects.

Professor Gutow is a physical chemist. He taught primarily introductory (general) chemistry and physical chemistry. His research interests include viral inhibitors, quantum chemical computations, computer assisted symbolic mathematics, visualization of multidimensional objects, and self-assembled monolayers.

Professor Gutow received the Excellence in Teaching Award from the UWO student chapter of Sigma Alpha Pi in 2019.
