This error might occur if the Marvin class library interferes with the applet's classes.
Please remove MarvinBeans.jar and jchem.jar from your CLASSPATH!

An additional class library like Marvin should only be specified in a local CLASSPATH inside a script or makefile, but not in the global one that is also seen by your web browser.
